New research has revealed that females endeavour to provide stark attention to their old parents more than twice as often as males.

According to the recent studies, it has been found that families are having children of both sexes, it is the gender which determines, who will prove to be the better caretaker of the old parents. Researchers have found that females are more attentive of providing the care to their ageing parents’ needs and pass more time with them while males reduce the time they spend taking care of their parents as they get older.

The researchers of the American Sociological Association in San Francisco have concluded that gender is the vital factor when it is the concern of bestowing the care to ageing parents. It has been noticed that the women are more attentive than their male siblings in taking care of their old parents but how much care women provide to their ageing parents depends on their apprehensions and daily routine. Men haven’t been found too obligated to take care of their old parents as they have an outlook that someone else or parents spouse will manage the duty.

A doctoral entrant at Princeton University, Angelina Grigoryeva, found that sons provide an average of 5.6 hours of care to their ageing parents while daughters provide 12.3 hours of elderly parent care per month which is more than twice the care taken by sons of their old parents.

Old Parents

The study conducted by the academics has also discovered that men not only pass the lesser time taking care of their ageing parents but they also foist their care-providing duties onto the women or their female siblings. They also transfer the mental and physical stress of care to women along with the financial burden.

Now, the general outcome of the research has originated that daughters provide more care to their old parents as compared to their male siblings. Despite such data and findings revealed by the researchers, gender inequality and imbalanced sex ratio has been a menace in India. Hopefully, these findings will be helpful in the process of attainment of stable sex ratio in the Indian subcontinent and make the gender inequality, the stories of bygone days.
