Vital Vitamins Profile (B12 & D- 25 Hydroxy)
Vital vitamins Profile include two tests: Vitamin B12 test and Vitamin D Total. Vitamin D test, also known as 25-hydroxyvitamin D is done to measure the level of vitamin D in the blood. This test is done to detect if too much or too little vitamin D is causing bone weakness or other abnormalities. Many times, vitamin D test is also done to see if the present treatment for vitamin D deficiency is working or not.
Vitamin B12 test is done to check the amount of vitamin B12 in the blood. Vitamin B12 test measures the levels of your overall vitamin B-12, methylmalonic acid (MMA), homocysteine and holotranscobalamin (holoTC). A doctor recommends the patient to go for a B-12 test if the patient has symptoms like tingling in the hands and feet, a racing heart, dementia, confusion, problems with balance, weakness and loss of appetite. Vitamin B12 test is also done to screen for pernicious amenia.
