Understanding the Tests and Their Relevance:

CBC with P/S

Complete Blood Count with P/S-Hemogram profile gives important information about the numbers and kinds of cells in the blood, especially red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A Hemogram test helps your health professional check any symptoms, such as fatigue, weakness, or bruising, that you may have. A CBC also helps your health professional diagnose conditions, such as infection, anaemia, and several other disorders.

Alpha Feto Protein (AFP)

Alpha-Feto Protein is a blood test that is used to measure the amount of AFP in the blood. It is a routine screening test that is given to expectant mothers between the 14th and 22nd weeks of their pregnancy. AFP Testing examines the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), estriol (a hormone produced by the mother’s placenta and baby’s liver) and inhibin A (a hormone produced by the placenta). This test is done to screen for genetic birth defects including neural tube defects, spina bifida, and chromosomal abnormalities. AFP test can also be recommended for adults who are not pregnant. Elevated levels of AFP in adults who are not pregnant indicate certain types of liver disease.

Carcino Embryonic Antigen (CEA)

Carcino Embryonic Antigen (CEA) is a type of glycoprotein produced by cells of the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) during embryonic development. CEA is a blood test used to screen for various types of cancer including colon cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer,  breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

CA19.9-Pancreatic Cancer Marker

CA 19.9 Test looks for the antigen called CA 19-9 in your blood. The Test is also known as Cancer antigen 19-9, CA 19-9 radioimmunoassay (RIA) Test.
Antigens are substances that stimulate your body's immune system. Certain types of cancer cells send the CA 19-9 antigen into the blood, where it can be measured with this test.A high amount of CA 19-9 is most commonly caused by pancreatic cancer. But it can also be caused by the other cancers and by infections in your liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.
This test works best to help diagnose or make decisions about treatment for pancreatic cancer, but it may also be used for other cancers. Check out with your Doctor as to what the test results mean for you. It doesn't mean that you have cancer if test results show higher levels of CA 19.9. Other conditions can cause higher levels. Generally Speaking, If your CA 19-9 is less than 37 U/mL, you may not have cancer and if it is above 37 U/mL, you could possibly have cancer of the pancreas, gallbladder, liver, lung, colon, or the stomach.

If your CA 19-9 is higher than normal but is less than 75 U/mL, you may have an infection of your pancreas, an infection of your gallbladder, liver disease, gallstones, or a disease called cystic fibrosis. If a person is suffering from Pancreatic Cancer and CA 19.9 is going up may mean that the treatment is not working and vice versa. If your CA 19-9 went down after treatment but later goes back up, it may mean that your cancer has come back.

CA15.3-Breast Cancer Marker

CA 15-3 is a protein that is a normal product of your breast tissue. While the CA 15-3 protein does not cause breast cancer, if a cancerous tumour is in your breast, your levels of CA 15-3 may increase as the number of cancer cells increase. This is because tumour cells may shed copies of the CA 15-3 protein, which can then be measured by a blood test. While the CA 15-3 blood test is not used to screen or diagnose breast cancer, there are three other reasons why your doctor may order this blood test:
1.Evaluating for Breast Cancer Recurrence
2.Monitoring Your Response to Breast Cancer Treatment
3.Determining If Your Breast Cancer Has Progressed

CA125- Ovarian Cancer Marker-For Females

CA125 is a protein found in the blood. CA125 test is done to measure the amount of the cancer antigen 125 in the blood. CA125 is a blood test used to diagnose or monitor treatment of various types of cancer including ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer and endometrial cancer. Many times, a CA125 test is also used to detect early signs of ovarian cancer in people with a very high risk of the disease.
