Eyeliner is simply a cosmetic which is applied around the contours of the eyes to define and beautify them. An eyeliner transforms your look and makes your eyes more beautiful and attractive. Everybody is so obsessed with selfie these days, and love flaunting whatever they do! Do you want to have perfect selfies like your friends? It was first used in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia as a dark black line around the eyes. They used eyeliner and other cosmetics not only for aesthetic reasons but also to protect themselves from the sun. It was also believed that an eyeliner protects from the evil eye.
Eyeliner has become a must-have for women, and it is used by most of the women to enhance their look and appearance. Eyeliner does not only define your eyes, but it also adds on to your look. Everybody has a different style and way of applying it. It can be applied to various parts of the eye, like on the lower lid, upper lid and waterline. There are several ways of using eyeliner. But it is suggested to keep in mind the occasion, like for a regular college day, you may apply a thin black line on your upper eyelid whereas for a party or fashion event you may go for thick or winged one. There is no such restriction in using any of the eyeliner, but people like to apply the liner according to the occasion so that they do not become the odd one out!
What are the different types of Eyeliner?
1. Liquid Eyeliner
This eyeliner is said to be one of the oldest types of eyeliner which is a non-transparent liquid, usually packed in a small bottle along with a fine tip brush to apply the eyeliner. Liquid eyeliner gives a heavy appearance, so should be applied to the upper lashline only. If you are a makeup beginner, just make sure that you buy a good quality liner that does not flake off and smudge. If you choose the right eyeliner and tools to apply it, you can never go wrong, and always remember you can not just memorise how an eyeliner is used, but the more you practice, the more you learn and improve, as practice makes a man perfect!
2. Powder-based Eyeliner
It’s a kind of eyeliner which generally comes in a wooden pencil, but you can also use your eye shadow to save your money by applying eye shadow as eyeliner, and it actually looks good! Just apply it gently on the waterline and try using waterproof makeup products as they do not easily come off and last longer.
3. Gel Eyeliner
Gel eyeliner is a smooth, velvety and long-lasting eyeliner that is generally used to create a dramatic effect. It usually comes in a small jar along with a brush to apply it. It has a soft and velvety texture and easy to apply.
4. Wax-based Eyeliner
Wax-based eyeliner is one such soft liner containing Wax and thus making the task of applying the eyeliner easy. They come in a huge variety including intense as well as paler shades like white or beige. They also come in a compact along with a brush applicator.
5. Kohl Eyeliner
It is a soft powder eyeliner, available in dark matte shades, which is generally used in black to outline the eyes. Kohl eyeliner comes in a variety including pencil, press powder or loose powder form. The only drawback is that they are more likely to smudge.
If you are a beginner and just stepping into the makeup world, you just need to be careful while selecting the eyeliner. Before making a purchase, just make little efforts and do research about a liner, about its durability, quantity, whether it is smudge-free or not and of course the cost and get the best liner that suits you. Applying eyeliner is not that tough, you’ll gradually improve when you practice and use it on a regular basis.
